It’s been quite a long time since I have walked long. Had a few plans for short treks and hike but were not able to manage them. A few days back my friends plan for a short hike but were not able to choose the place. They asked to me choose a destination and join them for a Saturday hike.
Jamachoo has always attracted me as it’s always seen whenever I point my camera to the north side of Kathmandu valley, it pops up in my photographs.

I have heard that it’s a short hike but with steep uphill over the stairs. My initial plan was to go there early morning if possible to catch the sunrise from the top of the hill over Kathmandu valley. We reach there at 5:15 am. As we reach there the army personnel informed us that the ticket counter will open at 7 am as it is a national park under Nepal Army security.

So we went to Osho tapoban a nearby other destination popular for Osho followers and meditation. There is a restaurant outside the main gate. We requested the restaurant staff to prepare us tea. thought the restaurant was not open, he made tea for us.

Around 7 o’clock we went back to pulbhari gate the main entrance to Jamachoo. We bought our tickets and did a security check and enter the national park. It’s a four-kilometer hike from the gate to the hilltop of jamachoo. For almost 1.5 kilometers it’s a steep uphill with stairs. Since it’s a rainy season we had checked the weather forecast.

The forecast was cloudy and no rain in the morning. As we were heading towards the hilltop we came across a beautiful scenario inside the forest. Walking through the forest in misty weather.
As we were hiking up, we saw a few people taking trails and we followed them. In our nightmare, lots of leeches caught on our trousers and shoes in that trails. We used salt to get rid of the leeches and again started walking from the stairs.

It took almost two and half hours to reach the top. We spend some time there taking the picture, having breakfast, and offering a diyo ( light ) at the monastery. Besides monastery there is a temple dedicated to lord Naag ( snake ) and every year during the month of Chaitra Baisakh there is a festival dedicated to that naag deuta .

I wished I had visited there a decade ago before Kathamndu valley was overpopulated and people started making houses beyond the ring road heavily.

Since the weather was cloudy we were not able to see any himal, so my next plan is to visit that place during October November, or in the winter season.

It took almost 1 hour and 45 minutes for us to get ascend down.
