In 2008 I wrote a blog on the land of Bagmati Where is the land of the holy River Bagmati – All about photography, travel in Nepal | Sangesh Shrestha ), it took 16 years for my prediction to be true. People like me can foresee but the people who are supposed to predict such incidents and are in the right place neglected it.
In one of the talk shows former minister Mr. Prakash Chandra Lohani said that during panchayat there was a plan to save the Bagmati civilization, but just before its implementation we had B.S. 2046 political change which brought parties to powers.
Maybe to make the public happy or for other reasons, after that the government that didn’t go through the project works to save Bagmati which was done during panchayat.
Slowly after that, we saw in the name of sukumbasi, land at the banks of the river was taken by a few people ( if we interview the people living at sukumbasi basti at Thapathali, many pay rent for staying there, how can they be sukumbasi and who is taking the rent ?)
Some 15 16 years ago, former Mayor of Kathmandu Mr. Keshav Sthapit demolish the sukumbasi basti at thapathali , ( I had written blog on this Finally Bagmati river gets back it’s land – All about photography, travel in Nepal | Sangesh Shrestha ) link ) and later again after they were allowed to stay there, hidden political power allowed I guess.
Seeing B.S. 2081 asoj 12 flood, I think the government, local bodies, and Bagmati savyata should have a round table talk and resolve this so that in the future in such heavy rains, we have less loss.
I have never seen such a flood in Kathmandu before, but heard people saying in BS 2011 and 2038 they had a big flood.
Hope there is time to correct this mistake.
