Bhairab Naach – Festival of the Newar community in Pokhara
Where ever there is a Newar community you will experience different kind of festivals. The Newar’ festival is not only limited to just Kathmandu Valley, but they have taken their culture to different places in Nepal where they have settled from many generations.
This festival of Pokhara is unique in itself. It had a documented history of more than 270 years, but locals say it existed from more than that time period. Previously, this festival was celebrated in every 12 years’ time but now they celebrate this in every 6 years.
I love rock music, from the early age when I started listening to music. I was introduced to the music of Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, GN’R, Metallica and many to name here. One of them was Scorpions; their power ballads, their love songs, you can feel their music and lyrics. After I heard their music, I’ve always wanted to attend some of those live concerts in Vegas where they performed.
When MTV was introduced in Nepal, watching the rock bands’ songs and their concert videos was one of my passions. By that time, I had a dream that at least I will attend one rock concert of my favorite band in my life. I had one opportunity to watch Metallica when I was in Bay Area in San Francisco, but due to some problem, I could not watch them.
It’s been almost 5 months I have been living in Bangkok. I have heard about the Thai culture from childhood and many of them are similar to our Hindu culture.
Yesterday I observed the first Thai festival called Loi Krathong. It is always a fun to participate in festival and take pictures for me. Actually I was curious to know about this festival and how they celebrate.
It is the participation of people which preserves the culture, and in this run public of Patan are ahead. Kartik Naach is one of Patan’s unique culture. This is a performing artwhich contains some moral stories and Hindu stories and traditional music. It had begun from 12th November 2010. This festival will be celebrated till 19th November 2010. This year I am going to miss the last day of the show.
