It’s been a wonderful month of May 2016 for me. 2nd week of the month, I went to Tilicho lake and just after returning from there, got an opportunity to go to Heaven on earth, Rara Lake.
Rara Lake is situated at the far west of Nepal. It is one of the deprived areas of Nepal with beautiful landscape. Under Karnali zone, there are many beautiful places to explore and Rara Lake is one of them. At the heart of the Mugu District, it’s a 2 hour walk from the Talcha Airport. Since roads are constructed, there are many options to reach this beautiful place now.
A destination many imagine to reach but only a few make it. Tilicho lake is situated at 4919 meters above the sea level under Annapurna range at the Himalayas. It is situated at Manang district of Nepal. It was one of my to-do list for years.
This year I had my friends coming back home from Australia for their vacation. It’s been years that I have not met them. To make this meet a memorable one, we planned to trek. We had few options like Annapurna Base Camp, Gokyo Re and Tilicho Lake. As I have already been to Annapurna Base camp, and due to time constraints for Gokyo Re, we planned to go to Tilicho lake.
On 10th may 2016, we headed towards Besi Sahar, small town from where the trek for the Annapurna circuit starts. One of our friend who has had a problem riding a bus, because of vehicle sickness took his motorbike for this trip. While going to besi sahar, in the bus we met few people who were also going for the same trek, as we talked to the driver of the bus, we came to know that now a days there has been an off road track has been open till Khangsar village. Mahindra’s bolero pickup van are doing up and down every day carrying people and goods and making people life easy on these remote area.
Since the earthquake, every Nepali tried to forget the pain we got from that natural disaster and celebrate every festival with same energy with friends and family. This year every one tried to welcome the new year with new hope and big dreams. Every one participated in the festival to welcome the new year. Here are some picture from the sindoore jatra or Bisket jatra from Thimi .
A unique way of celebrating new year, which starts 4 days before the Nepali New year. Its a festival where there is rivalry between people participating to pull the chariot upward or downward the Taumadi square at Bhaktapur.
Lele is a small village located south of Kathmandu valley in Nepal. We went there to capture some landscape and portraits and daily life of the villagers. People there are very friendly. The kids we met were amazing. You can also see them singing our national anthem below.
Macro photography always attracted me. Since I didn’t had a macro lens, I am not able to explore this section of photography. A year ago I had chance to use one of my friends macro lens in botanical garden at Godawari. It was fun to use it for the first time.
This time I saw some flowers blooming in my garden, so once again i borrowed his lens to try some macro shot of some flower. Here are some picture i took.
After the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on 25th April, many people formed groups visiting quake hit areas and villages providing relief materials. Most of these groups were distributing tents for shelter and foods for the earthquake victims.
At the same time, we too had a group of friends from the field photography, both professionals and some as a hobbyist brought together by Ajay Rana Bhat. After seeing some badly hit towns like Bungamati and Shakhu, we decided to go there to make aware about sanitation and health issues while they are staying at tents. They named their group “Desh lai hamro khaacho cha” (The country needs us).
I support Local Empowerment. So, I’m sharing this Everest Base Camp Trek to promote a new way of trekking where trekkers can empower the local service providers like lodges, guides and porters by booking services directly through them. #empoweringthehimalayas #freetriptoeverest
