Trekking has been like a addiction to me. After doing Annapurna Base camp and Tilicho Lake, I always wanted to do at least one trekking at Khumbu area.
For me, I think I need to dream about it and after sometime the doors to that dream will opens. Same thing happens to me this time. I was planning to go trekking to Langtang area with my friend Akash, but same time I got a call from my friend from India Mr. Ajay that he is taking 2 weeks leave from his flying job and wants to trek with me to Everest base camp.
Akash didn’t want to go this time due to his busy schedule during the time Ajay set for trekking. So me and Ajay were ready to explore the Khumbu area. Since Ajay is not a good walker, I wanted to get some suggestion from my friend who is a guide and do lots of trekking there. So, I planned to meet Mr. Samde Sherpa.
On the occasion of New year celebration of Nepal Sambat the newar community held a rally to celebrate it. Every newar influenced city organize a rally in Nepal with people dressed up in Newari dress and dancing in Newari music.
Bisket Jatra at bhaktapur is celebrated for 9 days, on the last day of the year a linga is elevated at Lyosingkhel . The task of elevating the linga is very risky. Needs lots of engineering. Even in this morden era, these festivals are celebrated using the ancient technology. I never had the chance to witness this event before. This year I got the opportunity to see and capture some beautiful pictures.
Of the different festivals of Nepal, there are many festivals celebrated throughout the year inside Kathmandu valley. One day its in Kathmandu the next day some other festival in Patan or Bhaktpaur. Likewise, the Seto Macchindranath chariot pulling is one festival which draws scores of people.
Kotdanda is a hilltop south of Kathmandu valley. Famous Bisankhunaryan temple resides in this hill. I had been to this place 10 years back.
After visiting this place today, I felt lots of changes there. The first thing I observed is, there is a good road access to reach the place, the old houses were damaged by the earthquake in 2015, so lots of new concrete houses are constructed. Before, I didn’t see any tourism promoting activities, but the night now they have an homestay system so that people can visit the place and spend some time.
I support Local Empowerment. So, I’m sharing this Everest Base Camp Trek to promote a new way of trekking where trekkers can empower the local service providers like lodges, guides and porters by booking services directly through them. #empoweringthehimalayas #freetriptoeverest
